Meet Our Team

A Practice Built on Connection, Collaboration, and Whole-Person Understanding.

At Psychiatric Services & Consultation (PSC), we provide personal, holistic, and integrative mental health care grounded in a trusting therapeutic relationship. We believe effective treatment begins with a thoughtful evaluation and grows through meaningful collaboration.

PSC was founded by Patricia Knaudt, M.D., who has practiced psychiatry across a wide range of Triangle Area settings—from large public-sector systems to small private practices, and with clients ranging from high-achieving professionals to individuals facing severe, chronic mental health challenges. Across these diverse environments, one lesson remained clear: every person has a unique narrative, and treatment only works when it feels connected, collaborative, and whole.

That’s why PSC brings psychopharmacology, therapy, and health-focused support together. Our clinicians integrate evidence-based psychiatric treatment with therapy and health coaching to help you build healthy routines, manage stress, and strengthen resilience. We’re here to help you feel better, stay well, and thrive over time.

Our Approach to Care

An integrative, collaborative approach to helping you feel better and stay well.

  • Every journey begins with a thoughtful evaluation. This may include a one-hour diagnostic interview, review of relevant records, and when needed, additional assessments such as expanded diagnostic sessions, laboratory testing, specialized neuropsychological or psychoeducational evaluations, or referrals to trusted specialists. We collaborate with you to determine the appropriate depth of assessment—no more and no less than what will meaningfully guide your care.

  • When someone reaches out to a psychiatrist, it’s usually after trying many other solutions. We honor that. Early treatment focuses on reducing acute distress and improving day-to-day functioning through evidence-based interventions—most often a combination of medication and therapy.
We don’t lecture about lifestyle changes during moments of crisis. Instead, we meet you where you are. Once stability returns, we support you in gradually building sustainable habits that can enhance the effectiveness of treatment and support long-term well-being.

  • As symptoms lift, our work expands to strengthening the foundations that support long-term health. This includes enhancing coping skills, supporting healthy routines, preventing relapse, improving resilience, and creating space for more pleasure, ease, and engagement in life.

  • Mental health is shaped by culture, identity, and lived experience. We work deliberately to ensure your treatment feels safe, respectful, culturally responsive, and empowering—honoring what matters most to you and incorporating it into every stage of care.

What it’s like to work with us

Working with us means entering a partnership where your well-being is the singular focus. We start with a comprehensive assessment, then work to provide relief through evidence-based treatment, and finally strengthen your recovery. That is the PSC approach. You get access to comprehensive psychiatry services that address mind, body, and lifestyle factors. We aim for sustained remission, giving you the tools to thrive over time.

an important note

Our support doesn’t stop when your session ends.

We prioritize responsive support. Unlike large practices, our patients can call a confidential line or send a message through our HIPAA-compliant portal and expect a prompt response directly from your dedicated clinical team. This access is part of our commitment to high-value care.

Meet Renee, PSC’s Operations Coordinator

I know that taking the first step to reach out for help can be difficult. I keep that thought in my mind every time I answer the phone, or start a meeting with a new client. I am often the first point of contact as we get you on-board with one of our doctors or therapists. My top priority is to help the practice run smoothly and to help you have a successful experience here.

Over the last 20 years I have worked as an organizer – bringing order to homes and offices and enhancing productivity for my clients. This was a second career for me, after working in corporate public relations and university alumni affairs. Organizing has felt like my true calling and has allowed me to pursue other parts of my life with greater flexibility.

It feels wonderful to help clients manage their care and their lives in a more orderly and productive manner, and to advise and train people on how to enhance their day-to-day living.  HHelping others bring harmony to their life is rewarding.

NEW PATIENTS!
